Arapaja Formally Enters 2027 Oyo Guber Race, Vows to Sustain Makinde’s Legacy

Ambassador Taofeek Oladejo Arapaja, the National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election in Oyo State.

In a formal expression of interest released to the public, Arapaja positioned himself as the “bridge” between current achievements and future prosperity, emphasizing that his candidacy is rooted in a lifelong journey of loyalty and grassroots service.

Central to Arapaja’s declaration is the preservation of the “Omituntun” agenda established by the incumbent, Governor Seyi Makinde. Arapaja lauded Makinde’s strides in infrastructure, healthcare, and education, arguing that the state cannot afford a “political experiment” or a newcomer at this critical juncture.

“Oyo State does not need a newcomer… We need a steady, experienced hand to ensure that the progress started by Governor Makinde is not only sustained but accelerated,” Arapaja stated.

The Ambassador highlighted a political career spanning over three decades, beginning under the tutelage of the late High Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu. Arapaja’s track record is notably diverse, covering local, state, federal, and international roles:
Local Governance: Two-term Chairman of Ibadan South-East Local Government.
Legislative: Former Member of the House of Representatives (2003–2007).
Executive: Served as Deputy Governor of Oyo State under the late Adebayo Alao-Akala.
Diplomatic: Nigeria’s Ambassador to Iran and Jordan (2012–2015).
Party Leadership: Current National Secretary of the PDP and former Deputy National Chairman (South).

Arapaja argued that this breadth of experience equips him to “hit the ground running” while maintaining a deep connection to the “heartbeat of the streets.”
Unity and Stability.

By positioning himself as a candidate of “stability over uncertainty,” Arapaja appealed to the PDP faithful to prioritize a demonstrated ability to unite the party. He emphasized his accessibility to artisans, market women, and the youth, promising a leadership style that “listens before it speaks.”

As the 2027 political cycle begins to take shape, Arapaja’s entry sets a high bar for the PDP primary, framing the contest as a choice for experience and the consolidation of the current administration’s developmental gains.
