The family head of Olatoye family, Mogaji Hon. Olajide Olatoye, popularly known as Big Daddy Sugar, has issued a stern warning to politicians using the name of his late brother, Hon. Temitope Olatoye Sugar, for political advantage to stop doing so henceforth.

Mogaji Olatoye who spoke on behalf of the family expressed deep concern over what he described as the “politics of calumny” surrounding the death of his brother, stressing that the family is angered by attempts to drag the late lawmaker’s name into political disputes as the 2027 elections approach.

In a statement he issued and made available to journalists, Mogaji Olatoye said recent reports published by some online platforms including Impart News Network, have reignited allegations linking the death of Hon. Temitope Olatoye to Hon. Olafisoye Akinmoyede.

He, however, firmly clarified that Hon. Akinmoyede had been cleared of all allegations by a competent court of law.

“Let it be clear that Honorable Olafisoye Akinmoyede has been vindicated after being wrongfully accused of the killing of my late brother,” he said.

Olatoye referenced a judgment delivered by Justice Mufutau Adegbola of the High Court of Justice on January 23, 2020, in suit number I/70c/2019, where Hon. Akinmoyede and others were discharged and acquitted.

He described any attempt to continue associating the acquitted individuals with the incident as “derogatory, evil, and uncalled for,” warning that such actions could amount to contempt of court.

Big Daddy Sugar stressed that anyone with grievances against Hon. Akinmoyede should address them directly without invoking the name of their family’s late lawmaker.

“We are not happy hearing the name of our late brother in the news for political reasons. The family is still mourning this irreplaceable loss,” he said.

He further warned that the family would not hesitate to initiate legal action against individuals or groups found exploiting the situation, adding that litigation would be pursued where necessary.

The Olatoye family reiterated its call for respect for the late Hon. Temitope Olatoye’s memory and urged all political actors to desist from actions capable of distorting facts or reigniting settled legal matters.
