The political landscape of Ibadan South East Local Government shifted significantly today as leaders and stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gathered at the residence of the party’s National Secretary, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, for a high-stakes consultative meeting.

In a show of unity, the stakeholders unanimously endorsed Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin for a third term to represent the Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency. The move signals a strong vote of confidence in Agboworin’s performance at the National Assembly.

At the state level, the leaders also gave the nod to Hon. Modiu Opeyemi Akande (Alabamusa) for a second term in Ibadan South East Constituency 1, Hon. Yinka Omikunle for a second term in Ibadan South East Constituency 2 and Hon. Ademola Ige as the consensus candidate for the Oyo South Senatorial District.

The meeting took a significant turn when Mogaji Abass Oloko and Hon. Dare Adeleke formally called on Ambassador Arapaja to declare his interest in the Oyo State governorship race. They argued that Arapaja is uniquely qualified to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde on the grounds that Oyo does not need a newcomer learning on the job,”

“The state needs someone who can hit the ground running.

Arapaja’s experience in both the executive and legislative arms, coupled with his international exposure, makes him the perfect fit.” They stated.

They further described him as a “core grassroots politician” who understands the heartbeat of the people and the inner workings of government.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Arapaja expressed gratitude for the endorsements but focused his remarks on party cohesion.

He urged aspirants who did not receive the consensus nod to “close ranks” and prioritize the party’s victory.

“Only God ordains and puts people in positions,” Arapaja remarked. “Those who have spent resources and effort should not relent or feel aggrieved; rather, they should believe that their own time is coming.” He said.

The meeting was well-attended by top party brass, including Council Chairman Hon. Emmanuel Alawode, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin, Hon. Ademola Ige, Hon. Tope Supreme, Hon. Abiodun Adedoja, Hon. Sulaiman Adesina, Hon. Taofeek Oladejo, Alhaji Kamorudeen Surveyor, Hon. Kunmi Adesina, and Local Government Party Chairman Hon. Ezekiel Oluwole, among others.
