In a move to tackle deteriorating infrastructure through grassroots action, the Community Compass Initiative (CCI) today embarked on an extensive community service exercise at Owode Academy – Muslim Road, Ibadan.

The non-religious and apolitical organization deployed a team of dedicated volunteers to address two primary concerns: clogged drainage systems and hazardous potholes.

The intervention was specifically designed to restore ease of movement for motorists and pedestrians within the busy neighbourhood.

The exercise which began as early as 7am saw the volunteers worked to remove layers of debris and silt from the drainage channels.

Simultaneously, the team filled several deep potholes along the stretch of road.

By leveling the surface, the group has significantly enhanced road safety and reduced the risk of vehicular damage for residents and commuters.

Speaking on the sidelines of the exercise, the Coordinator of the group, Comrade Saheed Olameto, described the outing as a major triumph for the community.

“The exercise which is part of several initiatives that we render as community service was a huge success. Our goal was to provide immediate relief to this community, and we have seen a positive impact on the accessibility of the road already,” Olameto stated.

The Community Compass Initiative continues to champion the spirit of volunteerism, proving that local action remains a powerful tool for urban renewal and civic pride in Ibadan.
