Goodwill Plays Major Role in Determining Electoral Success – Awa, Senatorial Aspirant Declares

A senatorial aspirant for Oyo Central senatorial district, Alhaji Dr. Ademola Alli (AWA) has underscored the importance of goodwill and grassroots support in determining electoral success as against the financial strength that one possesses.

Alli who is aspiring to contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress made this known during a “Hot Seat” interactive session with journalists at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Saturday, made this assertion while outlining his legislative agenda, political philosophy, and preparedness for elective public office.

Alli who pledged to prioritise rural development, transparent representation, and impactful lawmaking, described himself as a grassroots politician with strong connections to rural communities.

The aspirant who has over three decades of experience in the federal civil service, said his ambition is driven by a commitment to bridge developmental gaps in underserved areas across Oyo Central.

“Goodwill remains a critical asset. With the support of the people and faith in God, even modest resources can yield significant results,” he said.

He noted that effective representation at the Senate requires competence in lawmaking, oversight, and constituency engagement, stressing that he possesses the requisite experience and influence to deliver on these mandates.

According to him, “a senator must make laws for good governance, ensure proper implementation of projects through effective oversight, and leverage influence to attract development to the constituency. These are responsibilities I am well prepared to undertake.”

The aspirant emphasised that his background and long-standing engagement with rural dwellers have equipped him with firsthand knowledge of their needs, particularly in infrastructure, agriculture, and youth empowerment.

“I have lived among the people and understand their challenges. My goal is to ensure that rural communities are not left behind in the nation’s development process,” he added.

Justifying his transition from the executive to the legislative arm, Alli explained that the legislature provides a broader platform to influence policies across multiple sectors.

“As a legislator, one is not confined to a single sector. Through lawmaking and advocacy, I can contribute to agriculture, infrastructure, youth development, and more. That is the kind of impact I intend to make,” he said.

On integrity and public trust, Alli acknowledged prevailing scepticism among Nigerians but maintained that his track record and consistent community engagements distinguish him.

“Integrity is built over time. Our antecedents and sustained contributions to society speak for us,” he stated.

Addressing concerns about the political godfatherism, Alli described party leadership as a system of mentorship and collaboration rather than imposition.

“God remains the ultimate authority, but we also respect party leaders. Leadership should be about collaboration and collective progress,” he explained.

Highlighting key challenges confronting Oyo Central, Alli identified poor infrastructure, unemployment, and rural-urban migration as pressing issues requiring urgent intervention.

He advocated increased investment in agricultural extension services, youth skills acquisition, and policies that encourage private sector participation in job creation.

“We must empower farmers, create opportunities for our youths, and ensure balanced development across both rural and urban communities,” he said.

Alli further assured that he would leverage his experience within government institutions to attract federal projects and ensure accountability in service delivery.

“There are existing structures and agencies. The responsibility is to make them work effectively for the benefit of our people,” he added.

On party cohesion and the possibility of a consensus candidacy, the aspirant reaffirmed his loyalty, pledging to abide by decisions reached through collective agreement.

“I am committed to my party. If a consensus emerges through a fair and inclusive process, I will respect it,” he said.

Dismissing concerns about being a first-time legislator, Alli argued that effectiveness is driven by competence, vision, and strategic engagement rather than tenure.

“Leadership is about results, not years of service. With my experience and network, I am confident of delivering,” he said.

He also urged the electorate to critically assess aspirants’ antecedents before casting their votes, stressing the need for informed decision-making.

The session featured active participation from journalists and political observers, who engaged the aspirant on governance, accountability, campaign strategy, and legislative priorities.
