As the political landscape for the 2027 general elections begins to take shape, the conversation surrounding the Oyo South senatorial district at the Red chamber of the National Assembly increasingly points toward one name: Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige. Known affectionately by his admirers as “Ige Again,” his candidacy represents more than just a political ambition; it represents a proven track record of loyalty, administrative excellence, and grassroots connection.
Hon. Ige’s political journey since the dawn of the Fourth Republic in 1999 is a masterclass in consistency. From his tenure as the Executive Chairman of Ibadan South East Local Government (2003–2007) to his role as Minority Leader in the 8th Oyo State House of Assembly, Ige has remained a staple of reliable governance.

His impact is perhaps best measured by the lives he has transformed. During his time at Mapo, he facilitated the permanent employment of over 385 youths into various disciplines within the local government. Today, those individuals most of them who are still in active service that spread across the 33 local government and 35 local council development areas of the state today, stand as senior professionals in their fields. This is a testament to a leader who builds people as much as he builds infrastructure.
Currently serving as the Chairman of the Local Government Staff Pension Board (LGSPB), Hon. Ige has become a beacon of hope for senior citizens. Working under the visionary leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, Ige has utilized his vast expertise to ensure the prompt payment of monthly pensions. More importantly, he has successfully navigated the complexities of clearing gratuities and death benefits that were denied to retirees by previous administrations. His empathy for those who served the state is not just a policy position; it is a personal mission.

In a political era often defined by opportunism, Hon. Ige stands out for his unwavering loyalty. In the build-up to the 2023 elections, despite his clear intentions and popular support to represent the Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East Federal constituency, he stepped down for the incumbent Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin who was also seeking re-election at the request of the PDP leadership. This selfless act highlighted a man who views power as a gift from God and places the party’s unity above personal gain.
Holding the prestigious title of Baameto Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Hon. Ige bridges the gap between traditional values and modern governance. He is accessible, humane, and possesses a popularity that transcends party lines.

For the people of Oyo South senatorial district, the 2027 election is a choice between potential and proven performance. Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige is not just a candidate; he is a trusted hand who has consistently delivered for the youth, the elderly, and the community at large. To move forward, the district needs a representative who has already been there and succeeded. It is time for “Ige Again.”
