Hon. (Engr.) Sunday Anthony Babatunde is a proud son of Ibadan, distinguished for his strong pedigree, technical expertise, entrepreneurial success, and commitment to public service.
He began his educational journey at St. John Primary School, Eleta Ibadan, and proceeded to Ibadan City Academy for his secondary education. Driven by a passion for technical excellence and problem-solving, he enrolled at the Technical College, Awe, Oyo State, where he obtained a Diploma in Mechanical/Fabrication Engineering.
In pursuit of higher academic and professional competence, Engr. Babatunde advanced to Lagos State Polytechnic, where he earned a National Diploma (ND) in Mechanical Engineering. He furthered his studies at Rivers State Polytechnic, Port Harcourt, obtaining his Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering.
His professional career took off at DOLMECH Engineering Limited, where he played key roles in the execution of major national projects. Notably, he was part of the engineering team responsible for the installation of HVAC systems at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, the Union Bank Head Office, Marina, Lagos, and several other high-profile engineering projects across Nigeria.
In 2005, inspired by entrepreneurial vision and industry expertise, he founded SUNBAS Electro-Mechanical Works.
Today, SUNBAS firm stands as a reputable indigenous engineering firm with a workforce of nearly a hundred employees, contributing meaningfully to job creation, technological service delivery, and Nigeria’s industrial development.
Engr. Babatunde ventured into politics in 2015, motivated by a sincere desire to serve his people and contribute to inclusive governance. He aspired to represent Ibadan South East Constituency II in the Oyo State House of Assembly in 2019 and 2022. Though the opportunity did not materialize, his dedication, resilience, and loyalty to the democratic process remained unwavering.
In recognition of his steadfastness, leadership qualities, and contributions to the political development of his constituency, he was appointed and sworn in as the Executive Secretary of Ibadan South East Local Government on 18th May 2023.
Hon. (Engr.) Sunday Anthony Babatunde is happily married and blessed with wonderful children. He remains deeply committed to service, grassroots development, and the pursuit of good governance for the people of Ibadan South East and Oyo State at large.
